For the greatest heat-gain reduction, we recommend exterior over interior Windshield Covers. Exterior covers are more popular, because they block the heat and sun before it reaches the glass. An exterior cover will actually reduce the windshield temperature. And subsequently, they’ll cool the interior much more efficiently. Since an interior cover is located inside the windshield, it does not lower the temperature of the glass. We highly recommend that you avoid ordinary fiberglass-based windshield covers. The sun will make the fiberglass brittle! After a couple of hot summers, a fiberglass windshield cover will crack and tear (especially where folded). Fiberglass windshield covers always carry shorter warranty periods and have low life expectancies. Fiberglass also has no elasticity to it, so it won’t stretch like a true Sunguard™. It’s difficult to eliminate wrinkles in fiberglass, as well … and a genuine Sunguard™ is made of 100% vinyl-coated polyester, so it has tremendous elasticity to it. Warning! Ordinary fiberglass windshield covers can tear easily!
Avoid “stamped” sunscreens. If a rip forms in a “stamped” screen, the rip can easily “run”. To demonstrate this; imagine taking a pair of scissors and cutting a 1″ slit in an ordinary windshield cover. If the screen is “stamped”, as you pull the two ends of the slit apart, the screen will usually tear easily from that point. Sunguards™, however, are made of a rugged, “woven” polyester fabric. If you were to cut a slit in a genuine Sunguard™, and pull the two ends of the slit apart with all your strength … you would not be unable to tear it! “Stamped” covers also have little or no elasticity, so they generally do not have the degree of stretch that Sunguard™ Shade Products do. It’s difficult to eliminate wrinkles in a “stamped” type of windshield cover. A genuine Sunguard™ is “woven” … and will stretch to provide a “wrinkle-free” and handsome fit!

Please note: we do not put a bottom center fastener on the windshield.
Start with this step by step process…
1. Temporarily tape your Sunguard covers over the windshield, where they will fit, using masking tape.
2. Using a pencil, mark the coach where the fasteners are to be located.
3. Prepare to attach the fasteners to the coach body. Use the detailed instructions at the following links…

Velcro® Installation Instructions:
1. Attach the adhesive “hook” patches to their “loop” counterpart patches sewn on the covers. (Do not peel off their adhesive film backings yet).
2. With the front of the rig clean, dry and dust free, tape up the covers using masking tape.
3. Peel off the adhesive film backing from the top-center patch.
4. Press the top-center adhesive patch (above the windshield) firmly into place.
5. Mount the four corner patches accordingly.
6. Mount the side covers in the same way.
Note: When you order Velcro® type installation, the Sunguard™ covers arrive ready to install with snaps, as well. In that way, if the customer would rather convert to snaps (for a tighter fit), the snaps are ready to install and do not have to be sent back to the factory.
Velcro® type adhesive patches can be safely and easily removed from the rig! Simply saturate the patches with WD-40® for a few minutes. After removing the old patches, the adhesive residue may be removed with soap and water or any standard glass cleaner.

Sunguard™ RV Windshield Covers – Easy Installation Instructions.
Installation Using Preexisting Fasteners:
If you want to replace old windshield covers and have existing fasteners on your coach, you have your choice of one of the following three options.
Please note that Sunguards are made with 1″ double-reinforced perimeters. And our fasteners need to be located in this 1″ double-reinforced perimeter to assure fastener stability. For this reason, it is not recommended to try and mount new covers to old existing fasteners. Therefore, we have provided the following three alternatives:
1. Remove old fasteners from coach and install new Sunguards. Our first recommendation is to simply remove the old fasteners and install new ones. It’s easy to seal the original holes with silicone or other filament (available at your local hardware store). An excellent way to fill existing holes is to simply install rivets, as they will not stand out. They’ll simply appear as a standard (factory placed) feature of the RV. Then later, if desired, the rivets or filament can be camouflaged with touch-up paint. Patching or riveting holes is an easy and inexpensive solution and assures the best fitting new windshield covers.
2. Leave old fasteners on coach and install new Sunguard covers. Although we can not guaranty that any preexisting fasteners will line up properly with fasteners on new Sunguard RV covers, it’s possible that one or more fasteners might coincidentally line up properly. For example; if there’s an existing fastener above the center of the windshield, It’s possible that it could be used with a new Sunguard cover. Although it’s doubtful, there may be others which line up properly as well. If you prefer to try and use some of the old existing fasteners, go ahead and order a new Sunguard before removing any of the old fasteners, and see if any of the old fasteners will work. Use any old fasteners that will work, and install new ones as necessary. After the new Sunguard cover is fully installed, you can either leave the remaining unused fasteners on the coach, or you can remove them and fill the holes as described above.
3. Send us the old original windshield cover to use as a template. If you have an old windshield cover in fairly good condition, we may be able to use it as a template, if you send it to us. Since this requires us to hand-cut the new set outside our normal assembly line production, there is a $65 duplication fee for this service. Because of the different stretching factors between the old and new sets, we will leave the fasteners off the new set. Then, once you receive the new Sunguard, you can attach new fasteners to it, so they line up properly with the preexisting fasteners on the coach. To do this, simply tape the new covers up over the existing fasteners, and indicate (with an indelible marker) where the fasteners should be located on the new covers. Then simply attach new fasteners where you’ve marked it. Please call in advance for shipping instructions. We would prefer that you place your order before shipping your old covers to us. The old covers will be returned to you along with the new set.

Sunguard™ RV Windshield Covers – Simple Care Instructions.
Care and Maintenance:
Sunguard RV covers are easy to care for. Made of 100% woven vinyl-coated polyester, they’re very rugged and durable. Whenever the rig is washed, Sunguard covers may simply be sponged down along with the rig. After rinsing, they can be removed and set aside to dry while the windows are washed.
Most store-brand carwash detergents work fine. For tougher stains, 1 tbsp. liquid dish detergent and 2 tbsp. bleach can be mixed in a gallon of water. Sunguard fabric can be wiped with a sponge or soft cloth dipped in this solution, and rinsed with water.
To remove tar or tree sap, try using a little WD-40®-type spray. “Dissolve-it®” is an excellent nonabrasive, oil-based cleaner generally available at your local home center or hardware store. After using an oil-based cleaner, be sure to follow up with a mild detergent-based cleaner, such as car-wash or dish detergent. Avoid contact with suntan oils or similar lotions, as they may cause accelerated product aging. If contact occurs, clean promptly.
Sunguards should never be put in a washer or dryer! After cleaning, simply put them in the sunshine and allow them to dry naturally. They sun-dry very quickly and will keep their shape and last far longer.

What if a cover doesn’t fit properly?
Sunguards are custom-made according to patterns on file. And although every effort is made to assure excellent, custom fitting covers on every order, we apologize if you receive one which does not fit properly. If this happens, please call Customer Service immediately with the Sunguards handy. We may ask you for some pattern codes (located on the rear of our covers). We may ask you to explain the disparity to us over the phone. Generally, we will be able to remake the correct cover(s) immediately by using alternate patterns on file. We may ask you to draw the modifications needed on the covers. Occasionally, we may need new patterns, which you can prepare for us to facilitate the order. Patterns are not difficult to make, and we can send you pattern paper if needed.
